Hi, I would love to hear about your experience with different primary schools in Wandsworth with your child with special needs.
I'm looking for the right primary school for my daughter for reception. It's hard to know how well she will integrate into class with others. I'm interested to hear how the staff works around their needs and how they try to integrate them into class (participation, helping make friends etc). Thanks!
Have a look at bellevilles meteor street site, it is a former special school building and v accessible. They have recently had a changing places facility put in for a wheelchair user.
Hi again! Ravenstone has some stairs unfortunately... They are so lovely though. The unit called Hive has its own entrance and the teachers meet kids there to take them up. Parents can also go up with them if needed. I think you may struggle in Wandsworth for lifts with all the Victorian schools we have here. And Greenmead may be a bit too "special" for her. Perhaps give them a call?
Thanks! Her needs currently are minimal but could progress over time. Mostly physical like going up and down stairs could be difficult over time. Does Ravenstone have a lift?
Hi there. I'm in Wandsworth too! What kind of disabilities does she have? You may want to look at Greenmead in Southfields - they cater for profound physical and learning disabilities. I’ve heard from a friend that it’s a great school. My son’s disabilities are less severe so we’ve gone for a SEN Unit at Ravenstone in Balham - I believe the only school in Wandsworth that has a dedicated SEN unit in a mainstream school. It’s a great compromise as they are taught separately but can play with all other kids during breaktimes. My son has autism. Staff are amazing and all kids seem so happy!
