My daughter has just been diagnosed with ASD, level 1. We are now at the EHCP request stage. She is 4. The school we had in mind doesn’t seem suitable anymore. It’s outstanding but big and noisy. Not sure whether it’s best to put her in mainstream or in an ASD unit? Any ideas? The advice we are getting is a bit contradictory. Sounds like both options would be good for different reasons. Feeling a bit lost. She is my first child so I suppose I'm not quite sure what to expect from mainstream and what actually worries me the most.

We are in Islington! The opposite part of London LOL. So don't know it. Sorry xx
Thanks threelittlepigs! We are in South London too! Wandsworth specifically! Where are you? I was thinking about Henry Cavendish but now searched and Ravenstone seems to be the only local school that offers SEN unit. Do you know it? It's also local to us but I didn't consider it before as their Ofsted report is not as good.
It's hard to advise without knowing your daughter but the general trend is to go for supportive mainstream if you can as it benefits them a lot. Are there any schools near you that offer both mainstream and SEN unit settings? Perhaps meet with them and talk about it? If they have a SEN unit, they will understand SEN very well and will help you decide. Perhaps meet them with your daughter? Which part of the country are you in? My son attends mainstream (a small school in South London). It has some challenges but overall I think its better. We were always advised to go mainstream but I think your instincts are right - big and noisy doesn't sound right. Definitely try to find something smaller
