Any useful tips how I can deal with my recent school refuser? She goes to a lovely local school with a SEN unit and has always been happy there. I don't know what has happened, can't get anything out of her, but the last couple of months have been a nightmare, from screaming and crying so hard that she almost makes herself sick, to not sleeping and general anxiety, worse than before. I spoke to the school and they can't think of anything that might have caused it. So I'm lost. She is 9 and home schooling is NOT an option!

Thank you both. It's not super bad yet supermum - she misses a couple of days per week right now but still goes sometimes. So we will wait and see. I also spoke to the school today and there is a counselor that visits main school once a week so perhaps she can try to talk to her and see if we can get to the bottom of this.
I don't know how bad her refusal is but if really bad, remember that LA is responsible for making sure she gets education so you may be entitled to apply for home tutors, at least temporarily, until she settles.
Does the school have an external counselor she could talk to? Perhaps something has happened but she doesn't want to talk to her usual teachers or you about it, perhaps she is worried she would get in trouble? It's sometimes easier to get someone external. Perhaps suggest it to the school as the first step?
